Spectrum awards Center for People with ,000 grant toward career development program

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Center for People received $50,000 toward their career development program through Spectrum Community Center Assist on Monday.

The grant from Spectrum was gifted through their $30 million philanthropic initiative to help local community centers and invest in job training programs in underserved areas.

“At Center for People, we believe that strong communities are built through collaboration and shared purpose,” Macala Carter, Center for People Executive Director, said. “Spectrum’s continued generosity, including this latest $50,000 contribution through Spectrum Community Center Assist, enables us to provide critical resources and opportunities to those we serve. We are grateful for their commitment to strengthening our community.”

This is the third SCCA grant from Spectrum awarded to Center for People, now bringing in the total support to $150,000.

Center for People serves as a resource for low-income individuals and families in Lincoln through multiple services, including food and diaper distributions, free English learning classes, the POP scholarship program, the Opening Doors community reentry initiative and Talent Marketplace education and career development program.

In 2021, Spectrum launched SCCA to invest $30 million to 100 community centers and job training programs, including Center for People. Just a year later, Spectrum launched a partnership with a $50,000 grant where employees and volunteers made repairs to their facility. It also helped provide 25 Chromebooks, a Smartboard and a 1-gigabit-per-second internet service for their new training and technology center.

“The partnership we’ve built with Center for People is making a real difference in the lives of local residents by giving them the skills, tools and updated facilities they need to improve their economic opportunities,” said Rahman Khan, Group Vice President, Community Impact for Charter Communications, which operates the Spectrum brand of connectivity services. “Through Spectrum Community Center Assist, thousands of people across the communities we serve have already benefited, and we look forward to expanding our impact with Center for People as they offer essential job training in an updated technology space.”
