What is one thing you wish people knew or understood better about your profession?

As a Military Education Counselor, one thing I wish people understood better is that our role is not just about academic planning and career placement — it’s about shaping lives and missions. We help Airmen navigate complex personal and professional decisions, balancing their aspirations with the needs of the Air Force. We support not only career development but also mental resilience, transition planning, and overall well-being. It’s a mission-critical role that impacts readiness, morale, and retention. Every conversation can influence a life and the success of the force.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received and/or the worst advice you’ve ever followed?

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. This piece of advice emphasizes the power and value of collaboration for achieving long-term success. I often say, “I’m a force by myself. But I can be nuclear with like-minded partners.”

What goal have you already achieved, and how did you make it happen?

I earned a Doctorate degree in Education and secured one of my dream jobs as the Director of Education and Training for a military installation. This required extreme sacrifice, dedication, and commitment. As a combat veteran and educator, I have a unique ability to foster excellent working relationships that helped me obtain an extraordinary leadership position in Military Education.

If you weren’t in your current profession, what would you be?

I would be a Civil Rights Attorney, or the President of a College/University. I am deeply committed to serving others, particularly individuals in low socioeconomic and downtrodden communities. My passion lies in advocating for justice and creating opportunities for those who are often overlooked. Whether as a civil rights attorney or the president of a college, I aim to empower marginalized populations, ensuring they have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

What are five things (not people or pets) you can’t live without?

My faith, my health, chocolate covered almonds, coffee and sports talk radio.

What’s something you do outside of work to enrich yourself?

I view “enriching” myself as a double entendre: something that provides valuable education and profitability. I actively pursue various licenses and certifications that enhance my knowledge and provide additional streams of income. I’m a licensed realtor, and I’m currently working towards obtaining my General Contractor’s license.
