JOB TITLE: Employment Advisor – Internal/External Posting
POSITION STATUS: Full-time, permanent (35 hrs./week)
COMPENSATION: $42,630 – $45,360 per year
REPORTS TO: Manager of Employment Programs

As an Employment Advisor, your primary responsibility is to help clients find suitable job placements within the community. You will utilize your networking, marketing, and negotiation skills to liaise between various programs and the employer community. This involves reaching out to potential employers to generate job opportunities that match the client’s skills, abilities, and interests, and providing support to both the client and employer to maintain a positive employment relationship. Additionally, you will assist clients in developing job-seeking skills, effective work habits, and professional development during and after the hiring process. You will also maintain accurate client records and provide regular progress reports.


• Ongoing outreach to employers and businesses is conducted through several methods, including cold calling and on-site meetings, to establish connections, maintain an employer database, and access the “hidden” job market
• Develop and foster relationships with employers in various industries to ensure successful job development and suitable employment opportunities for job seekers
• Market and promote SCCC services to the community, including attending job fairs and community events/functions and meeting with employers and other business groups
• Develop and fill job placements according to established Ministry and internal monthly targets

• Collaborate with Employment Counsellors to identify clients’ skills, abilities, and interests to focus job development strategies accordingly
• Assist clients in setting achievable goals based on strengths, interests, work experience, education, and barriers
• Match client interests and skills to job leads, assess suitability, forward resumes, coordinate interviews, and follow up with employers and candidates to determine next steps
• Assess employers’ eligibility to participate in the program and workplace capacity to provide positive work experience and training
• Maintain regular communication with both the client and employer during the placement process and provide ongoing support to encourage employment retention and maintenance
• Provide employers with administration support and assistance with program procedures and guidelines, including preparation of training agreements, training plans, and contracts

• Contribute to overall program planning and implementation
• Maintain accurate case documentation in multiple internal systems and monitor placements, including follow-ups, surveys, and outcomes
• Negotiate placement duration and subsidy levels with employers
• Complete and maintain files, adhering to organizational standards
• Conduct scheduled follow-ups to ensure that the placement is successful, and any issues are resolved in a timely manner



Post-secondary Degree, Diploma, or Certificate of Qualification in a related discipline


• Effective communication skills, with an emphasis on reflective listening and responses
• Sales and/or marketing experience is considered an asset
• In-depth understanding of job search practices, tools, and labour market trends
• Respectful of and responsive to individuals and communities facing social, economic, and cultural barriers
• Knowledge and understanding of labour market trends, coaching, and mentoring approaches to support job seekers who are most distant from the labour market.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 Workspace and Adobe Acrobat (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PDF, etc.); ability to learn other programs as needed
• Bilingualism is an asset
• Ability to prioritize workload, manage time effectively and coordinate multiple activities.
• Knowledge and/or training in Motivational Interviewing Skills is an asset

• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and clean driving record are required
• Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Comply with the SCCC’s vision, values, policies, and procedures

All new employees shall be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their start date and must also provide proof of vaccination. Fully vaccinated means that 14 days have elapsed after completion of a vaccine series (i.e., full two doses). Please note that the agreed-upon start date may be delayed to an alternate date on which a successful applicant becomes fully vaccinated. SCCC’s requirement that successful applicants be fully vaccinated is subject to any accommodation obligations it may have under the Human Rights Code.
